Rosie Farrell (Age 21)

Rosie was an inspirational young lady who through adversity always had a smile on her face. She was a popular former pupil at Whitesmore Secondary School in Chelmsley Wood and a sports therapy student at Solihull College.

Rosie endured 36 sessions of radiotherapy, several bouts of chemotherapy and at least eight operations in three years at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital but her tumour would not subside.

Rosie lost her courageous battle with her brain tumour on Tuesday 6th of September 2011 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Rosie was a get up and go character. With the help of The Joseph Foote Trust she was able to visit the set of hit TV show XFactor, where she met many of the stars of the show including star presenter Dermot O’leary.

Due to her illness, Rosie and her wonderful family had been unable to go on holiday together for some time. We wanted to ensure that they could build some memories to treasure long into the future. What better way to do that than to take a break and go on holiday! Their time in St Ives offered the perfect distraction from Rosie's illness and as you can see from the photo, put a smile on everyone's face.

On the 8th of October Rosie's family and friends gathered in Marston Green to pay tribute to Rosie. The event 'Rosie's Footprints' involved a walk around the local area, via places of significance to Rosie, such as her old house and school. Take a look at some of the pictures below:

The crowd gathered before the walk started to retrace Rosie's Footprints. Family and friends turned out in great force to raise money for brain tumour research. The total is still rising but is now well over £4,000!

Every participant carried a rose which was placed by Rosie's house. Just a small reminder of a beautiful girl.
