My partner was diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma – Astrocytoma Grade 2/3 in February 2009. My first reaction search the internet to find out what it was, is this going to kill him, will I lose the father of my child, what’s his life expectancy so many questions I wanted answers for and just found the one thing, a stat that said he would probably survive 5 years max.I then questioned the validity of that statistic and spoke to our oncologist about it, and basically wrote the statistic off……Why?
Is the statistic based on 33 year old, fit man who have never smoked? Or is it based on 2 year old child or 77 year old heavy smoker and heavy drinker? How long have they been recording this data? So how can this be an accurate figure??
To me that means there is hope.
During my search for “a cure”, because that’s what you do when something so heart wrenching tears you apart you go into “fix it” mode, I found that ALL Brain Tumour charities are so underfunded that only last year (2009) funding from the government for research into Brain Tumours was £1M, whereas the likes of Leukaemia received £14M!!
Brain Tumours have the highest fatality yet it receives so little funding in comparison to those which have cures!
I’m a 33 year old woman who just gave birth to a gorgeous little boy, who lives on the east coast of Scotland in a small town who will return to work full time and WILL continue to raise as much as I can to assist the research into Brain Tumours.
You're probably wondering why I've named my page Bare all for Brain Tumours. In November last year I was trying to come up with some ideas to raise money for the London Marathon. I came up with this idea to strip naked with some of my girlfriends to create a very artistic calendar to raise money for Brain Tumour UK. All my friends who I asked were all affected in some way to Brain Tumours.
