An Effective Partnership

The Joseph Foote Charitable Trust and the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust are proud to announce joint-funding of £169,375 over three years for an innovative research project aimed at finding new treatments for children with ependymoma.

The research will be carried out at the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham, and involves testing new drugs called histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) on brain tumour cells in the lab.

Ependymoma is an aggressive tumour type, with less than half of children with ependymoma surviving. Even following surgical removal combined with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, it often returns in a therapy-resistant form; therefore there is a desperate need for research like this to find new treatments to combat the disease.
